Mark Bohr Gets Small: 22nm Explained – Intel 3D Transistors

Intel announced this week that they had made a breakthrough in transistor technology enabling them to create smaller, faster and more efficient transistors. But what does that actually mean?

This lovely video and animation from Intel puts the scale of chip technology into perspective by shrinking Mark Bohr to 20 million times his actual size and taking us up close and personal with Intel’s new transistor technology, the Tri-Gate Transistor.

He boasts that the new transistors can switch 100 billion times a second. Now that’s a number and frequency that I find very difficult to get my head around.
